#4: Cooking Mama
I absolutely love, and I mean ABSOLUTELY LOVE this game. It’s a really fun cooking game where you cook various dishes for the character Mama, who teaches you how to cook things and rates them out of three stars. The goal is to try and impress Mama with your cooking skills, but that’s basically it. It’s mainly for younger people, but that’s also the pretty relaxing part, because you don’t really have to worry about working too hard. One gripe I have about it though, is that you have to perfect the dish otherwise Mama will be a little upset, so it’s not as relaxing as some other games. You can also play it on mobile for much cheaper!!
#3: Stardew Valley
Okay please don’t come after me for putting it this low on the list, but I have a good reason. I’ve never actually played this game before, but I’ve heard great things about this game. You’re an overworked worker in a city and inherit your deceased grandfather’s plot of land in a town, so you decide to move there and learn to fish, grow crops, and build relationships with the townspeople. I highly recommend this game if you just want to unwind and get your mind off of something stressful. The pixel art is totally jaw-dropping, and it’s just really pleasing to look at. This game is also on Steam (a desktop gaming platform).
#2: Tomadachi Life: Living the Dream
If you’ve been around the gaming community for even a little bit these past few weeks since it was released, I’m sure you’ve heard of this game before. I am actually obsessed with everything about Tomadachi Life: Living the Dream. The point of the game is pretty easy, where you create an island with these little characters called “Miis” which you can customize to your liking. The customization is the best part of this game because of the amazing variety of hairstyles, clothes, hair/skin colors, etc. You can add your friends, favorite characters, and basically anything you want! This game is so funny because of how incredibly unhinged it is too, despite being a kid’s game. You can type out topics for your Miis to talk about together and they can have really funny interactions with one another if you type in a hilarious topic for them. They can even fall in love, get married, become best friends, and it’s so entertaining to watch unfold! 10/10, amazing.
#1: Animal Crossing: New Horizons
When I tell you this game is incredibly addictive, I mean it. This game basically carried me through the pandemic when it peaked in popularity, and I am still crazy about it. You play as someone wanting to go on an “Island Getaway Package” where you move on to a deserted island with a few other villagers (which are cute little animals!!) from your town to create a new town and experience island life. You can customize your house, fish or catch bugs, socialize with other villagers, recruit new villagers for your island, build stores and bridges as well as walkways and other island amenities, and SO much more.
Everyday is a day where you can progress and build new connections, and the music is just amazing for relaxing. It may seem a little slow at first, but that’s because everything in the game progresses in real time. That could be a turn off for some people, but I think that’s why it’s so chill to play. This is by far one of the best games I have ever played and I really hope you consider playing it!!
