Multiple Movie Reviews
COMEDY
A League of Their Own: A League of Their Own occurs during World War II, and follows sisters Dottie Hinson and pitcher Kit Keller. This classic movie is about the creation of professional women's sports, and to some people, this may seem like a boring topic, but it’s super interesting! First, it’s a comedy! Secondly, one of the main themes is activism. Throughout the whole movie, the four baseball teams face sexism that they must overcome. Third, this is based on a true story! While all the men were fighting in the war, everyone else still needed entertainment and sports to watch, so they created the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League. I highly recommend!
Clue: Clue takes place in 1954 and is about the famous game. The movie follows Mrs. Peacock, Mr. Boddy, Yvette, Professor Plum, Miss Scarlet, Colonel Mustard, Mrs. White, and Mr. Green. It contains multiple murders and side mysteries for the viewers to solve.
13 Going on 30: This classic coming-of-age movie features teen Jenna Rink, who focuses on being popular, rather than her close friendship with her best friend, Matt Flamhaff. At her birthday party, she makes a wish that she were older, and the next thing she knows, she is 30. Jenna attempts to fix the mistakes she made long ago. This movie also has romance!
Princess Diaries: Princess Diaries takes place in Genovia, where Mia Thermopolis recently discovered she is a princess and heir to the throne. Mia must become the princess everyone wants her to be before realizing she can’t change who she is. Along the way, she meets Michael Moscovitz, and obviously, there's romance.
ROMANCE
27 Dresses: Jane Nichols has been a bridesmaid 27 times, without ever being a bride. Her crush on her boss, George, must end when her sister Tess gets engaged to him. Jane tries to help plan their wedding, but her crush still hasn’t gone away.
He’s All That: He’s All That is one of my favorite romance movies! This movie has feminists, romance, and people getting what they deserve 😡!!! Padgett Sawyer's boyfriend, and the most popular guy in school, cheats on her, ruining her life. Or at least, that's what she thinks! Padgett’s friend bets her she can’t create another prom king, and while she is trying to turn Camron Kweller into the most popular guy, she falls for him. And right when their relationship is about to get more serious…BETRAYAL!
10 Things I Hate About You: It's also one of my favorite movies of all time! Bianca Stratford wants to go to the dance with her boyfriend, but is not allowed to, so her bad*** sister, Kat, goes with a boy, which is unrealistic. But… there is one boy who might be Patrick Verona. Bianca and her boyfriend come up with a plan to get him to ask her out… they pay him. Patrick tries to date Kat, but fails multiple times. They soon fall in love, before one thing ends their relationship.
MYSTERY/CRIME
Italian Job: The Italian Job features a group of people hoping to avenge the death of their friend, John Bridger, by getting back at the guy who killed him. But avenging his death isn’t the only thing they plan to do; they plan to steal back the $35 million worth of gold they originally stole.
Enola Holmes 1&2: Enola Holmes, sister of Sherlock Holmes, solves the mystery of her mother’s disappearance, and Bessie Chapman's lost sister Sarah (second movie). I’m not sure how else to describe these movies, other than to say I highly recommend them!
Oceans 8: A remake of Oceans 11, but with a female cast. This group of highly intelligent women wants to steal a $150 million necklace from the Met Gala. This is one of my favorite movies, and I hope you watch it!
Knives Out: Wake Up Dead Man: SO GOOD! This is the third movie in the Knives Out series, but you can watch it without watching the first two. You should still watch them. Wake Up Dead Man came out just a couple of weeks ago, and it shows the solution to an impossible crime! Priest Jud Duplenticy and detective Benoit Blac work together to clear Jud’s name and find out who the murderer is. This movie has SO MANY plot twists and is definitely one of my FAVORITE movies of all time!!
HOLIDAY
Home Alone 1: Home Alone is a classic! Hopefully, you have already seen this movie and don’t need a description.
Elf: Elf is one of my favorite Christmas movies! It’s a comedy that makes me laugh every year. Buddy the Elf travels from the North Pole to New York to find his dad. Along the way, he learns how to behave in the city, and makes lots of new friends…and enemies. I HIGHLY recommend this!
MUSICAL:
Hamilton: PLEASE WATCH HAMILTON! I saw this musical for the first time when I was 7, and I have watched it at least once every year. I love history, so obviously I like Hamilton. BUT! Even if you don’t like history, the plot and music are extraordinary! Extremely good musical!
