What 6th Graders Should Expect In Seventh Grade

Are you wondering what 7th grade might be like? Well in this article we will tell you everything you need to know and that is different.

Less Homework, More Classwork:

In 7th grade, to many 6th graders’ delight, you have way less homework. The trade off to this enjoyable factor is a lot more classwork. The 7th-grade curriculum is more focused on classwork, which means you will have more free time outside of school, but you have to put in the work and LOCK IN during school hours. In 7th grade, if you turn in classwork and homework late, the best you can get is a C, so finishing all of your classwork assignments in school is crucial if you want to maintain a high grade. Less homework completely changes how school feels, but with school responsibilities more in your hands, it is easy to forget your homework. (I know what a Segway…)

Random Seating

In 7th grade, your seating will be random. This is good for learning because it forces you to interact with peers you may not be very close to. Although it is good for learning, it is annoying because you might not be able to sit next to your friends. It is very IMPORTANT NOT TO SWITCH YOUR SEAT because if you get caught switching seats, you will get LUNCH DETECTION. The way you find your seat is to look for your name card. The random seating is annoying, but also very important.

Electives

Another thing that’s different in 7th grade is that there is not a 1 hour period at the end of the day on Wednesday. Instead, there is a 1 hour period where you have the class that you picked earlier in the year. This is called an elective. For electives, you can pick whatever the options are, such as, board games, newspaper, self defense, chess, and many more entertaining and interesting options.

When you're picking your elective, there is a page where you can pick your favorite options from 1 to 12 (descending from favorite to least favorite). All the elective options that you can have, the people who are in charge of them come into your classroom to try to get you into one of their amazing electives.

The teachers state that the lowest possible ranking you can get for your elective is number 8. They also state that you should never pick an elective just because you have a friend who is doing it. Always favor yourself when it comes to what you like.

Conclusion

The switch from 6th to 7th grade can feel scary at first, but you will soon find that there are many benefits. Such as electives which are much better than what you do on a 6th grade on Wednesdays. There is less homework so you have more time to do things that are fun at home. Finally, there is random seating which is annoying but good for learning. 7th grade is frightening at first, but it is much better than 6th grade.
