As the early morning fog began to clear, the New School soccer team warmed up for the championship game. They played a small-sided possession game and practiced shooting on our goalie. Coach Julian woke up at 6 A.M.  to prepare our formation, lineup and tactical approach to this game.

Before they knew it the game began. It started upbeat for New School with them dominating possession. They scored after ten minutes with a strike from Richard (7th) that the opposing goalie fumbled and let in. New School continued to take some shots, while Ren (7th) and Anthony (6th) defended well againstSt. Stephen (the opposing team)’s  counterattacks. They were dominating the midfield, with Dean (7th) and Max (7th) controlling the game.

After that in the second quarter St. Stephens had a quick fast break out of nothing that lead to #80 scoring the equalizing goal making it 1-1. Although the ball was all in New School’s attacking half they couldn't quite score again due to some offsides and efforts at goal being tame.

The referee blew the whistle for half-time and Coach Julian’s remarks showed passion and dedication to winning the game. Re-energized, the New School team jogged out for the second half. It began just like the first half with New School having the ball and getting upfield. Meanwhile, Watson (6th), Diego (6th) and Antonio (7th) were shutting down St. Stephen’s attack. This included many great diving saves from the goalie, Jaan (7th).

Then the ball crossed in from the left flank and deflected into Dean’s (7th) path. He confidently shot it in with the outside of his right foot into the bottom corner of the goal. As they continued to take more shots, Jimmy (7th) shot one from outside the box and once again the goalie fumbled the ball to make it 3-1 to New School. At this point we were cruising and in the third quarter we were taking our time and sealed the victory.

Final Score

New School 3 - 1 St. Stephen’s

New School are champions!
