7th Grade Student Council Candidates
This year, many people are running for a spot in the new school student council. There are a lot of benefits to running, such as getting $10 off free snacks at the middle school store and an impressive boost to your high school application. In this election, 7 people are running in the 7th grade these people include:
Caden
Corey
Dario
Dean
Elle
Eva
Sibani
Starting with Caden, he wants to advocate for peers, get outside seating options because he has seen there isn’t enough room sometimes in the greater room, and improve social events like the dances and field day through peer ideas. Caden has prior experience with leadership and the responsibilities that come with student council because he has already served in 6th grade, and he has much experience with sports leadership through baseball.
Corey is promising to provide a raffle at school dances to keep students engaged and a grade-wide game like capture the flag, where each grade competes against each other with a school store prize. His prior experience with the student council makes Cory a good candidate. The last idea Corey has is that he will bring a movie night after some school days where students and their parents could come for a great time.
Dario is promising to create a raffle, a new snack voted by students every month, and a game voted by students throughout the grades on field day. One experience that he has that is similar to student council responsibilities is that he has helped work with the mayor to close down a local street on Halloween to keep kids safe. This connects to student council responsibilities because he advocated for children in his area to make Halloween a fun safe place for all children.
Dean is a leader in our NSSF community. He is promising to make intramural sports, more activities, field trips, and new clubs, including a book club, cooking club, video club, and a sports club. His prior experience includes being on a basketball team where he is a point guard. He communicates positively with his teammates and promises to do the same in the student council. Dean has been at the school for 8 years, so he has seen both the school's growth and successes. He wants to make school challenging, fun, and exciting for everyone. He also promises to listen to his classmates to receive feedback and to make school more fun.
Elle is creative, responsible, organized, and works well with others. She promises to use these characteristics to keep track of events. One of her ideas is that once a month, there is a middle school activity where each activity of the month is different. Another idea she promises is an activity where each grade chooses five students to shoot three pointers and whichever grade scores the most wins bragging rights. She also wants to bring back the participation challenge where whichever grade wins gets a dollar off the school store.
Eva’s prior experience with leadership was that she had worked with other kids at our school and already served a term of student council. These experiences are very helpful in terms of leadership considering that having experience on the student council means you already know what to do. One idea she has for the student council is a suggestion box for ideas for the New School.
Sibani’s past experiences with leadership were that she was a former member of the student council, and she was on a volleyball team. Being on a volleyball team is good for leadership because it takes courage and skill to play with many people on a team. Some ideas she has include a hallway decorating contest and a welcome crew aka a buddy system.
