Hantavirus

Picture this you are on a cruise ship, partying like there is no tomorrow and maybe there won’t be.

The hantavirus is passed through rodents. Rodents can transmit it to humans if humans breathe in virus particles from the animals feces or urine. Its symptoms include fatigue, muscle aches and fever in the first one to eight weeks after exposure. Later symptoms can include coughing, shortness of breath and fluid in the lungs.

The reason people are fretting is because the mortality rate is around 50%. To put that into perspective imagine Mr. Beast is making you flip a coin deciding if you stay alive or die. But that’s only the tip of the iceberg, even if you escape death and survive you still will have intense pain making you muscles feel like they're about to pop.

The cruise ship started in Ushuaia, Argentina, where a couple went bird watching in an area where the species of mouse that carries the virus was present. Once on the ship they ended up passing the virus along on their trip. They also didn’t know they had it because symptoms dAlong the way 3 people died, 122 crew members and all remaining of the 175 passengers were evacuated, some later finding out they were infected with the virus.
