On Monday, January 19, members of our NSSF community gathered for the 2026 San Francisco MLK March. The march was to honor the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr, and lasted from 11:00 am -12:00 pm. It started from the SF Caltrain Station, and ended at the Yerba Buena Gardens.
I interviewed Ms. Belkora, an attendee, to get her perspective on the march and her experience.
Why did you feel it was important to attend this event?
“I felt it was important to attend because I want to support my colleagues and families from New School, who were organizing and participating in the event. I also came because I wanted to honor Martin Luther King Jr, and to be in solidarity with others who are activists for social justice, especially because of what is happening in our country today.”
How many people do you think were there from New School?
“I would say about 80 people.”

Have you been to the SF MLK March in previous years? If so, was it any different from the years prior?
“No, this was my first time!”
Which other NSSF middle school teachers came?
“The ones I saw were Ms. Heather, Ms. Rachael, Ms. Jasmine, Ms. Jena-Lee, and Mr. Scott.”
Would you go again?
“I would definitely go again. I enjoyed walking in a peaceful demonstration, and I also enjoyed the music and the speeches at the end of the march. There were memorable performances from the Glide Memorial Gospel Choir, and also a moving speech by the founder of an SF organization called United Playaz.”
