Chocolate Chip Strawberry Sponge Cake Hearts

We really enjoyed these chocolate chip strawberry sponge cake hearts by 7th grader Ellie Dubasik.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup sugar

  • 1/2 cup butter

  • 2 eggs

  • 2 tsp vanilla

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 3/4 tsp baking powder

  • 1/2 cup milk

  • Handful of chocolate chips

  • Frosting

  • Strawberries

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees

  2. Grease a 9-inch cake pan

  3. Cream white sugar with butter in a mixing bowl

  4. Add eggs one at a time, beating briefly after each egg

  5. Mix in vanilla

  6. In a separate bowl, combine flour and baking powder

  7. Add the wet ingredients and mix well

  8. Add milk and mix until smooth

  9. Pour batter into the cake pan

  10. Bake for 30-40 minutes

  11. Remove from the oven and let cool

  12. Frost, decorate, and enjoy!
