G7 Basketball Season

The G7 Non Female Identifying Basketball team has had a rough season. So far, they have a 0-7 record with 1 game remaining to play. Despite tremendous efforts from key players, the team has simply been outplayed.

The team has also battled injuries forcing unexpected absences, and forcing the team to improvise at the last minute. Despite the struggle, the team has put up a tremendous fight to try and acquire their first win, yet, luck hasn’t been on their side. From shots rimming out to lucky half court shots at the buzzer, it has been an emotional rollercoaster.

All players have put in work and improved their skills throughout the season, but have still come up short. With just one game remaining, Coach DeVries and his players are mentally focused, and aren’t ready to give up.

Although the season hasn’t gone as planned, the team has still shown that they’ve enjoyed this year, and are excited to keep competing in the future. One player said, "Practices have been really fun, but games have sometimes been frustrating, but we’ve fought through it and had a good time.”

NSSF vs MDA Game Recap
(Dean’s perspective watching)

The squad finished layup lines and hyped each other up before heading to the bench. Our starters Ren, Caden, Fedor, Owen, and Dylan—lined up to face "The Bald Eagle" and "Ty the Shooter." MDA won the tip, and the game was on.

MDA started fast. The Bald Eagle brought the ball up, then kicked it to Ty the Shooter who drained a 3. We were down 6-0 early, but we didn't fold. Fedor grabbed a huge rebound and fired it to Ren, who went full turbo down to the elbow and pulled up for a bucket. MDA ended up scoring another 5, so the first quarter ended 11-4.

In the second quarter, we subbed in Santino, Reid, Sid, Ren, and Holland. We started way stronger this time. Ren brought the ball up and found Santino wide open at the free-throw line for an easy bucket. It was 11-6 with 5:30 left. We were hustling like crazy, grabbing boards and pushing the pace, but we just had some unlucky misses on our layups.

After we turned it over and gave up a layup, we heard Mr. DeVries yell, "Let’s take care of the ball!" We listened and slowed things down, moving the rock until we found Santino again for another open layup.

By the time MDA put their bench in, it was 15-8. We kept attacking the middle, and Ren found a gap to drive straight to the hoop. At halftime, it was 18-10. Then everything started going down and we lost our composure and after 2 more quarters, the final score was 45 (MDA) to 25 (NSSF).
