New School Welcomes New Greenspace

On the 24th of April, Ms. Belkora led her advisory and several other students to meet and assist two workers from the North Beach Green organization. I came as a journalist for NewsCool Chronicle, jotting down notes while Markos and Brandon introduced themselves and their organization.

North Beach Green is a team partnering with numerous schools in San Francisco, dedicated to utilizing 1,000 square feet of concrete for spreading native Californian plants and increasing local pollination.

While students helped to shovel and plant outside New School’s fence, the workers educated us about native plants such as the bumblebee-friendly California lilac (ceanothus), black sage, the fragrant San-Francisco-native hummingbird sage, and the sturdy California fuchsia.

We had a wonderful time learning about various plants as well as getting the experience to watch workers introduce more greenery into our school, and it’ll bring a smile to everyone’s faces to see a little more beauty outside our building.
