The Next Step In Mr. Antwan’s Career

Antwan Davis, New School’s body percussion teacher as well as a member of the student support staff, will unfortunately no longer be working in our school. It was a difficult choice to make, but he decided to step down from his job in the classroom in order to accept an invitation that offered an unmissable opportunity: participating in the 2025 Osaka World Expo!

Representing the United States, Mr. Antwan will show his many percussion moves to the world, bringing to a culmination his lifelong journey in preserving his culture’s dance movements through education and performance. The Expo events are to last from April to October, with approximately 80 unique pavilions, over 150 participating countries, and an estimated 28 million visitors!

Mr. Antwan admitted that he couldn’t have found the confidence to participate in the Expo without getting the experience to teach in schools, passing his knowledge down to younger people and understanding his value as an educator and performer. He enjoyed one final day with his students on Tuesday, April 8th, including lighthearted games of four corners and whole-class reflections on our time together.

In addition to the countless dance moves he had spent his life mastering, Mr. Antwan taught his students two main principles in life he considered to be the ultimate demonstration of maturity: showing respect for others and being present in all environments. For students old and new, Mr. Antwan’s contributions to this school will be long remembered with honor and gratitude.
